Catholics for Choice Statement on Senator Edward Kennedy
August 26,2009
Washington DC - Jon O’Brien, president of Catholics
for Choice, issued the following statement this
morning about the death of Senator Edward Kennedy.
“Senator Kennedy’s long career in politics epitomized the definition of working for social justice. As a prominent prochoice Catholic, he attracted criticism but never wavered from doing what he thought was right. He, along with the rest of the Kennedy family, always stood with those most in need. He supported women’s rights and reproductive rights. He was a leader on civil rights and workers’ rights. He led the charge for healthcare reform and supported just immigration reform. He will be sorely missed and impossible to replace. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
